Due to school holidays, the office will be closed from 28th March, reopening 17 April, so please bear this in mind for printing, notice sheet information and so on. Thanks, Jan
St Mary's Pastoral Flowers
The Pastoral Team would like to invite all members of the congregation to take part in a new scheme to maintain contact with the housebound and ill, both church members and village residents.
Each week someone would provide a small bunch of flowers to be placed in a vase at the front of the church (by the 'Mary' statue) which will be taken, along with a notice sheet, if appropriate, to a housebound person with an expression of our love and concern. This would not be an extended visit and ideally could be immediately after the service.
A separate Pastoral Flowers fund is to be set up to pay for these - although flowers from the garden might be just as suitable. A list of people to receive the flowers will be drawn up and, if we have a lot of volunteers, it might only be a couple of times a year that you would be involved. Suggestions for people to receive flowers would be welcomed and it will include those who are prayed for on Sundays.
More details will be given at the APCM. Please see Maggie Hawkins if you are interested.
Remembrance Day 2018
To commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One in November, St Mary’s has planned to create a display of poppies cascading down from the church tower. To achieve this, members of the congregation have begun knitting poppies to fill the display, but we would welcome help from those in the village of Walkern and, indeed, further afield who have the time and skill to make a poppy to contribute to the display. We would also welcome donations of RED & BLACK wool (DK is preferred).
For those of you who would like to knit poppies, the following easy pattern is what people have been using.
AMP & APCM Meetings
17th & 19th April
St Mary’s, Walkern
This year’s meetings will be held on Tuesday 17th April, 7.30pm in St Mary’s Church. At the first of the meetings will be the appointment of Churchwardens and a Deputy Warden for the coming year. At the second, immediately following, PCC Members are elected, and reports are given by various Office holders and Revd Cannon Mike Leverton. The electoral Roll is displayed at the back of St Mary’s; if anyone sees anything that should be changed, or would like to be added to or removed from the Roll, please could they let Maggie Hawkins know as soon as possible.
St Peter’s, Benington
A very warm welcome is extended to all to come along to the Annual Parochial Church Meeting on Thursday, 19 April in the Village Hall at 7.30 p.m. This is a good opportunity to hear what has been happening at St. Peter's during the year. There will also be elections for Churchwardens, PCC members and Sidespersons. Refreshments will be served after.
Cafe Church - Walkern URC
The next Cafe Church will be on 22nd April. More details can be found here.
