A Big Thank You

Normal and Joyce Tucker would like to thank everyone who came to St. Mary's on Sunday 8th June and joined in the lovely service and on their Diamond Wedding celebrations.

When you are lucky enough to reach this milestone, life is full of cherished occasions and our celebrations will be forever in our memory. We would like to thank everyone for their cards, the beautiful flowers, the bell ringers' presents and to Caroline, Joyce, Maureen and Stella for helping with the fizz and to Yvonne who decorated the church and iced the cake.

After the service, Beverley played The Wedding March as the choir left and we both felt we were privileged to be part of such a caring and loving Church.

God bless you all.

Congratulations

Our warmest congratulations go to Jodie Smith who was confirmed last Thursday evening (29th) at Holy Trinity Church Stevenage, by the Bishop of Bedford. Please keep Jodie in your prayers.

Christian Aid Week

The magnificent sum of £1172.02 (£1311.41 including gift aid) was collected for Christian Aid's work. A heartfelt thank you for your generous contributions and our grateful thanks also to our dutiful collectors and money counters. God bless you all, Rita and Olga.

Letter From Becky

Dear Friends,

It is with very mixed feelings that I write to let you know that Mike and I have decided it is time to make a move from Benington and Walkern in order to relocate to the West Country. Mike's post as Dean of the Faculty of Education of Plymouth University means that much of his time has, of course, to be spent there, and we feel that it is high time we made a move nearer his work in order to make life rather more practical for us both.

We aim to move some time during this coming autumn, but are not yet able to be specific about exactly when. We have begun the search for a house and hope that we will find the right place before too long.

In the meantime, l will be meeting regularly with the churchwardens, Church Councils and Ministry Team so that we can plan carefully to ensure that our congregations are cared for and that all who come to the church for baptisms, weddings and funerals will receive a high standard of care.

As soon as Mike and I have a clear idea of our leaving date, we will start to plan some get-togethers and celebrations for all of us to enjoy, and we hope that very many of our friends from the village will be able to join us for them.

I would ask for your prayers for Mike and I at this time of transition, and assure you all of my continuing prayers for you.

With every blessing,
Revd Becky Totterdell.

Benington Annual Wine And Cheese Evening

Many thanks to all who helped with the recent wine and cheese evening, to raise money for the Flower Festival. Special thanks to Harry and Sarah Bott for hosting it. The evening raised over £500.

Chuchwardens

Congratulations to our churchwardens: Liz Morgan, Maggie Hawkins, Rita Plumb and Nick Goddard, and deputies Jan Phillips and Brice Wood, who were ‘sworn in’ to their office by the Archdeacon of Hertford at St Peter’s on Thursday. The service was attended by well over 100 people, mostly churchwardens from around the archdeaconry who were also being admitted to office.

Walkern Fair

A note from Pam: ‘Many thanks to everyone who helped and contributed to the church stall at Walkern Fair last Sunday. Our efforts paid off, and we took £434.82. A grand result.’ Many thanks to all who helped in other ways with the Fair too. It was a huge success, and good to see so it so well attended and enjoyed!

Congratulations To Laurie Hawkins

Laurie has been through a Selection Conference for Reader ministry, and will be starting to train in the autumn. Please keep Laurie and Maggie in your prayers.
